angel go in go hard ft wretch

I have chosen to analyse 'angel when i go in' music video. this is also the video my group are re-making.

the music video starts of with various 1 second shots then long shots to medium shots to both artists, this is to introduce both artists. there are panning shots of them and camera shots where the camera is free held with a waved motion to the artists, this is because of the rhythm of the song as it is set fast paced. camera shots need to follow the beat. thoughtout out the whole music video, the camera never stops moving, no still shots. the camera moves very freely. there are a lot of panning shots, high and low shots. i would describe the camera shots were all over the place but works very effectively.

the lighting the director used in the music video was natural day lights and stage lights. these were in two different settings, the first one was a stage with flashing stage lights and the second was outside mostly on a roof where there was natural day light.

there were quite a few settings in this music video, firstly the stage. then there was a roof that was reguraly shown. there was also a studio.

music video director

MUSIC VIDEO DIRECTOR

How to be a good music video director?

Writing

it’s important to learn to write. Having a good sense of story is invaluable.

Crew Selection

A small crew travels fast, so use as few crew members as possible. Hire those that are diverse in their talents and can work several jobs simultaneously.

Shooting

instruct the singer to sing properly – no half-hearted singing or, worse, miming. If they mumble or mime, it will not look right when you lay the shots against the song, because the tension and movements of the face and body will not be consistent with the sound of the song. They must sing as if you were making a real recording of the song.

Organize

On the day of the shoot be prepared and organized. Keep a record of shots you’ve made; it’ll make editing much easier. Always allow plenty of time for shooting – the finished shot may only last 10 seconds, but could easily take several hours to set up and shoot. When you’re happy with a shot, if you have time, shoot it again. You can never have too much footage, and the retake may capture something that you hadn’t noticed first time round. You’ll have your plan and storyboard to follow, but remember that some of the best moments in a video can be unplanned.

B-Roll

You really have two choices when it comes to B-roll for musical performances. You can mix multiple camera angles and show various shots of the performer performing, or you can cut away to show shots of images related to the theme of the song. These related images can be full-motion video, but they don’t necessarily have to be. Still photos often work well in music videos. Search old photo albums to see if the images you want are already there. You can use still photos to create a video montage, with the music in the background.

Stock Footage

Short-ends or buy-back (leftover film stock from other shoots) are good ways to purchase film stock cheap. You can purchase such stock directly from shoots that are nearing completion or from film, Sometimes Kodak and Fuji will donate film or give discounts to students and young film-makers.

Editing

A nice trick I have used to edit a music video efficiently is to place all the clips on the timeline, one above the other on stacked video tracks. They must all be in their correct positions relative to the song, i.e. they must all be synchronized – except for the cutaways, which can be placed wherever you like.

Have Fun

When thinking about making videos, we ask ourselves, what would be fun to do for a few weeks? That’s where our ideas stem from.

Genre Research

Genre Research

this is my genre research from my main artist Angel whose genre is R&B, POP, GRIME

R&B

Rhythm and blues, often abbreviated to R&B and RnB, is a genre of popular African-American music that originated in the 1940s. The term was originally used by record companies to describe recordings marketed predominantly to urban African Americans, at a time when "urbane, rocking, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat" was becoming more popular.

POP

As a genre, pop music is very eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks. pop features all these elements, utilising electric guitars, drums and bass for instrumentation

GRIME

Grime is typified by complex 2-step, 4X4, breakbeats, generally around 140 beats per minute, or sometimes structured around a halftime rhythm, and constructed from different synth, string and electronic sounds.[2] Stylistically, grime draws on many genres including UK garage, British hip hop and dancehall.[6] The lyrics and music combine futuristic electronic elements and dark, guttural bass lines

star image - Angle

Sirach Charles aka Angel the artist is 24 years old, he is a singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist / producer. he started singing at a very young age like most artists where i have foun dout he was influenced by many artist such as; Prince, Michael Jackson, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Dru Hill. Angel grew up in West London, Shepherd's Bush, with his brothers and sisters and his parents. Angel's father was a big part of the musical man he became as he was also a musician and worked with all the top reggae artists such as kaya. He attented Brackenbury Primary School in Shepherds Bush

his career didnt start to long ago, 2010-2011, Angel started of at the early age in a band with his brothers and sisters called the Charles Family. After playing at over 300 plus schools the band of siblings decided to go their own way. Angel released his first mixtape "Patience is a Virtue" in 2010. The mixtape included hits such as "Julie" and "Run This Redeye".

Angel co-wrote the Number 1 single Green Light by Roll Deep with his writing team Parallel which sold 400,000 copies in the UK. He co-wrote & featured on Wretch 32's album Black & White singing on Never Be Me and I'm Not The Man. The album sold over 150,000 copies in the UK. He wrote & produced Coming Home for Pixie Lott & Jason Derulo.
During the time of 2011 Angel had released his much anticipated mixtape 7 Minutes Before Time featuring the likes of Wiley, Maxsta, Giggs, Cleo Sol, Wretch 32, G Frsh, Scorcher, Sneakbo and Mark Asari. Videos were shot for the songs "Gleamin" featuring Wiley and Maxsta, "Popstar" featuring Giggs, "Ride Out" featuring Sneakbo, "Bottles" featuring G Frsh and Scorcher and lastly "Go In Go Hard" featuring Wretch 32, which was shot in early 2012.

Angles  is heavily tattooed, including a musical stave on his cheekbone. his dress sense i would say comes from the typical london look for males that are into RnB rap
